The premiere musical event of 2014 in Grand Rapids is Founders Fest. The one-day music festival is thrown the Founders Brewing Company in downtown Grand Rapids. Each and every year it boasts a diverse and entertaining line-up that is sure to get the beer and music loving attendees moving. On June 21st Grand Rapids residents will enjoy great beer, food, and music. Attendance at the event is usually in the thousands, making this one of the most popular annual festivals in Grand Rapids.
The musical selections at this year’s Founders Fest definitely have a Brooklyn flavor. Fans of the funk, and electronic styles of music that are coming out of Brooklyn will particularly enjoy this event. The headliner for the event this year is Lettuce. Lettuce is one of the hottest funk bands in America this year. They have played major festivals like Electric Forest, Summer Camp Music Festival, and are even playing Red Rocks this summer. The horn driven, grooving, band should be a huge draw for Founders Fest this year.
Other acts from Brooklyn are R&B influenced Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires, the funk powerhouse Budo’s Band, and electronic duo Break Science. Break Science will be a departure from the more organic sounds at the festival. This electronic duo features Adam Deitch on drums and Borham Lee on Keyboards and laptop. Adam Deitch is also the drummer for the band Lettuce. Both Borham and Adam are members of the live band for Pretty Lights which is one of the top acts in electronic music today. Break Science recently played in Grand Rapids as they headlined a show at the Intersection in March.
The event is a one day outdoor event that takes place at 235 Grandville Ave SW, Grand Rapids right in front of Founders Brewery. All attendees of the even must be at least 21 years of age. Tickets for the event are $20 presale and $25 on the day of the event. This is the biggest street party of the year in Grand Rapids so be sure not to music if you love craft beer, great food, and great music.
