Head To Muskegon Winter Sport Complex For Winter Family Fun!

The Muskegon Winter Sport Complex is a unique spot for winter time family fun. It is run by the Muskegon Sports Council which is a non-profit organization. They’ve partnered with the Muskegon Luge Club, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the West Michigan Speed Skating Club in order to provide visitors and residents of Muskegon County with plenty of quality winter sports activities.

Luge

Muskegon Luge gives one an Olympic thrill while keeping safety a top priority. The 850 foot long track has two starting areas and six curves. It’s been designed by Olympian Frank Mosley to allow participants to reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour, but it is still suitable for the beginner. All equipment is provided for you. This includes a helmet, forearm pads, and an Austrian or Latvian luge sled. Coaches are available to get you started with an introductory class.

Ice Skating

The family rink, hockey rink, and quarter mile ice skating trail are all open to the public. Each is open from 10am to 9:45pm daily when weather permits. Skates, helmets, pucks, and hockey sticks are available to rent. Any visitor playing hockey must wear a helmet. This helps ensure the safety of all guests.

Cross Country Skiing

The Muskegon Winter Sports Complex is home to the Midwest’s largest lighted cross country ski trail. At 15 kilometers long, the trail gently runs through woods, along dunes, and by Lost Lake Bog. It’s an excellent way to explore Muskegon State Park. The trail is groomed after each snowfall for both classical and skate skiing.

Snowshoe

Muskegon has three snowshoe trails open to the public. This means there’s the perfect one for any skill level you may be at. The Woods Trail is ideal for a quick trip around the loop, while Lost Lake Trail and The Lake Michigan Loop are more aggressive with stunning views. These trails are separate from the ski trails, and they are not lighted. Those who wish to snowshoe after dark will have to have head lamps for visibility. Day passes and shoe rentals are available at the sports complex.
